About Beth Meadows:
Always wanting to be an artist as a child led me to study Studio Art at the University of Tennessee, where I received a BFA in 2007. I’ve been making artwork ever since, a process that challenges me, engages my passions, and gives me joy.
I decided to live in Knoxville after graduating because of the potential I saw for its growing art community. The challenge of being an artist in a small city over the past fifteen years has driven me to focus, find discipline and structure, and pivot all along the way. It has also given me the opportunity to be a part of many wonderful things. I helped found and was the Director of 17th Street Studios from 2010-2017 and the Salvage Shop Studios from 2015-2016, work spaces for visual artists near downtown Knoxville. I’ve also organized, curated, and participated in over 100 art related events and exhibitions over the past decade.
Today I live in a small rural town outside of Knoxville with my orange cat Birdie. I run a side-project called Plucky Panther which focuses on collaborations with other artists. I also own a home organization business called The Empathetic Organizer. Besides art, I enjoy thrift store shopping, hiking in the Smoky Mountains and reading self-help and business books.
As an artist, I’m inspired by so many things and like to draw connections between them. In no particular order, here are some of those inspirations:
– comics, cartoons, and children’s book illustrations
– fashion and architectural design
– vintage and antique items
– the confidence, insecurity, beauty, grace, & strength of women
– food and animals
– dusk and nighttime
– high and low art
– recycling and second-hand shopping
– craftsmanship and materials
– comedy, dark comedy, love, pain, and heartache
